Bug Dropper

-
The "Bug Dropper" is designed to dispense beneficials in
a row crop environment. Any row crops can be treated, but crops with a
canopy to "catch" the beneficials are best, for example,
strawberries or melons. This unit attaches to a tractor tool bar and
uses 12v power from the tractor.
-
An insulated reservoir is used with this dispenser to
keep the "good bugs" cool. This is the same box that
insectaries typically send to the grower. The ice-like material that
surrounds the bottle of beneficials is used by the dispenser system
for chilling. This is most essential with predatory mites and
lacewing larvae, but even eggs benefit from being kept cool and
covered from the effects of sunlight.
Research Note
- A study conducted by Phil Phillips, University of California
Cooperative Extension in Ventura, shows that our equipment is the best
method for releasing predatory mites (persimilis) in strawberries. The research
(among other things) measured the quantity of predatory mites applied
by hand from bottles, applied by hand on bean leaves, and applied by
our tractor-mounted dispensing device. Phil’s UC-Cooperative
Extension address is 669 County Square Drive, Suite 100, Ventura, CA
93003-5401.
Key Benefits
- Beneficials dispensed quickly, evenly and safely
- Reduced labor costs
